Lentil Pulse (Daal)


  •  250g lentils
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 potato
  • 250g spinach
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • ½ tsp garlic
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt, red & black pepper as per taste
  • A pinch of cinnamon powder
  • A few coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 litre water


  1. Wash lentils and add water, salt and turmeric powder.
  2. Cook for 10 minutes till lentils are tender.
  3. Peel carrot, potato and dice into small squares.
  4. Dice spinach, onion and tomato.
  5. Add carrots and potatoes to the lentils.
  6. Sauté cumin seeds in oil and cook onion, ginger and garlic till it becomes light brown colour.
  7. Add spinach to onion mixture to crisp it.
  8. Mix in diced tomatoes, cinnamon, red and black chillies and cook for 5-7 minutes to get a smooth mixture.
  9. Add the smooth mixture to lentils and cook for 5 minutes.

Garnished Lentils with coriander.
